We all have a desire to know how we belong to a community. In a church that is growing there is a danger of being lost in the crowd, or becoming ‘just another face’. We do not want anyone to feel that way.

At
St Cuthberts we believe that everyone is vital to the mission and future of the church and that God has a place and a purpose marked out for everyone. Our intention has been to make the marks of membership at
St Cuthberts as clear as possible. We believe there are five markers of being a member of
St Cuthbert’s:
Growing
Home groups are the very centre of church life. They are the main way people can build solid, long-lasting relationships. Home groups are a place to get to know God more, to do what the Bible teachers, equip and train, develop new leaders and to reach out to others. We have a number of Home Groups. Initially, we encourage new people to visit a few Home Groups and then regularly attend one that suits them.
MeetingWe encourage members to attend Church Services on a weekly basis. As we worship and learn together we get a sense of belonging to something that is greater than just ourselves. Our Church Worship Services are a place where we hear the vision and direction of the church, get a sense of God’s greatness and have a chance to receive Holy Spirit ministry. We also encourage members to view the service as a safe environment to bring guests and friends.
ServingWe encourage everyone to be involved in church-based activities. As we grow, so do our Sunday and midweek activities (children, The Alpha Course, worship, coffee, welcome etc.) each of these need volunteer time. We believe that God has gifted us all to make the church community work and therefore, everyone has a part to play.
GivingWe are encouraged in the Bible to give money as an act of worship and so we also encourage members to become regular sacrificial financial givers. As we invest our money in the work of the Kingdom of God in our local setting, the church is released to have an increasing impact on people’s lives. Through members’ giving we are able to resource internal programs (e.g. children/youth) and external programs (e.g. missions, and outreach).
Praying We encourage people to engage in prayer regularly for the life and purposes of the church. This can be done by attending our Prayer meetings, praying in Home Groups and of course, in your personal times of prayer. Scripture says that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (Jas 5:16). We believe that God longs to answer the prayers of his people. A person who becomes a member of our church will naturally want to do all these things and in doing so, they will feel a sense of belonging and contributing to a real community - where our values are aligned with one another to build God’s Kingdom here on earth.
